Forest skis are designed for deep snow travel, with their width and length providing a large surface area to keep the skier on top of the snow, making movement in snowy terrain easier. There are many different forest ski models on the market, but recent top-rated skis, such as Peltonen Metsä and Åsnes Kongsvold, are also among Retkivuokraamo’s preferred quality products. A new addition to the rental selection, the Åsnes Ingstad Waxless, is an extremely versatile ski with steel edges and a scaled base, allowing smooth travel through forests, ice, and mountains. These skis are built to withstand even the most challenging conditions.
Retkivuokraamo’s selection includes Peltonen and Åsnes forest and backcountry skis. Depending on the model, some skis feature scaled bases and steel edges. Available types include bindings that are fitted to your own shoes, OAC EA bindings and Finngrip Easy bindings. Additionally, if you prefer ski boots, we also offer Rottefella NNN manual bindings. OAC EA and Finngrip Easy bindings are compatible with any flexible-soled shoes. Many rubber boots fit as well. All rental ski models include a pair of Peltonen Metsä backcountry poles (125-160 cm), Viking Teho telescopic poles (110-145 cm), TSL Semnoz XL aluminum telescopic poles (135.155 cm), or Åsnes Breidablikk poles (110-150 cm).
Åsnes Kongsvold Hunter backcountry skis
Åsnes Kongsvold Hunter is shorter than a standard forest ski, making it easier to maneuver and more user.friendly in both mountainous terrain and dense forests. Åsnes skis feature removable and easy-to-attach climbing skins, which provide grip when ascending hills and help to control speed on descents. The Åsnes Kongsvold Hunter does not have steel edges, which reduces the risk of injury when skiing with dogs. However, gaining grip even without the steel edges is still possible when needed, as the skis have a narrow waist. The skis come with a high-quality OAC EA binding, which is compatible with most flexible-soled boots. The length of the skis is 190cm.

Peltonen Metsä forest skis
Retkivuokraamo’s recommended model, the Peltonen Metsä ski series, offers both grip and glide. The selection includes Metsä Skin- skins and scaled base Metsä step-skins. Tested through and through, these skis are one the most versatile in the market. The integrated mohair skins allow skiers to move on deep snow using traditional skiing technique, providing excellent grip while not compromising glide. With Peltonen forest skis, you can ski effortlessly and stay on top of deep snow thanks to their large surface area. The mohair skins provide great traction on uphill sections, making turning the skis rarely necessary. The skis come with OAC EA bindings, and models with Finngrip Easy backcountry bindings are also available for rent.

Åsnes Ingstad Waxless backcountry skis
Åsnes Ingstad Waxless skis are steel-edged and feature a scaled base, making them shorter than traditional forest skis. Thanks to their steel edges, these backcountry skis provide better grip on icy snow. The scaled base does not require waxing and offers natural traction on snow. If the skis start to slip or if pulling a sled, Åsnes X-Skin nylon climbing skins can be easily attached to the base to enhance grip. With climbing skins, pulling a sled and ascending steep slopes becomes effortless. The skis come with OAC EA bindings, which are compatible with most flexible-soled boots.
